The Business Legislative Advocacy Council (BALC) is comprised of the CEO two (2) board members (Current Chairman and Advocacy Chair) and two (2) members who are interested in representing the interest of business with the government. The BALC was established by the Board of Directors as the major component of a legislative and advocacy program. The purpose of the BAC is to study, analyze, and formulate positions on legislative and regulatory issues of interest to Chamber members and the business community in general.
The Committee identifies and studies local, state, and Federal legislative and regulatory trends that may affect the business community in the future. They work with legislators and government entities to initiate policy and legislation that may benefit the Chamber membership.
The (BALC) is formed to facilitate timely decisions on critical issues and proactive advocacy on issues important to the Chamber.
Purpose:
- Attend advocacy committees as needed.
- The Chamber does have 3 seats on the EVCCA board (CEO/Chairman of the Board/Advocacy Chair). Attending all EVCCA board meetings (4 a year).
- Track and communicate as appropriate all legislative, regulatory, or other such actions that impact Chamber members – detail as appropriate.
- Proactively participate in local and state political or related issues that impact Chamber members as needed.
- Attend the Chambers advocacy group (E.V.C.C.A., A.C.E., W.A.C.E., and U.S. Chamber) events (as required).
- Develop and strengthen relationships with elected local, country, and state officials.
- Work with the Chamber staff to ensure the information is shared in the monthly Advocacy newsletter.
- The committee should meet as needed and report all new legislative information to the board and the Chamber.
- Identify and prepare position statements (or approve) on issues affecting the Chamber businesses that are submitted to the board of directors for adoption/approval.
- Assist in coordinating any Chamber advocacy special events, such as but not limited to, the mayor’s Luncheon, A.C.E. Conference, Town Halls, Candidate Forums, Legislative breakfast, Ballot Issue Forum, and Breakfast with the Governor.
The Chamber, with the support and approval of the board of directors, has taken the stance that the Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce shall never support any local, state, regional, or national candidate at any time. The Chamber, however, may let the members know of upcoming elections, bills, and other legislative items that may impact them and their businesses.
