When Lester Maitland, Billy Burk, and Leslie Rhuart filed the articles of incorporation on February 17, 1965, the Cave Creek Carefree Chamber of Commerce was officially formed and headquartered in Cave Creek. Their mission was clear: to promote and foster the civic and economic welfare of their members and the two distinct yet complementary communities.
Initially, the Chamber struggled to gain momentum, remaining inactive for about a decade after its incorporation. However, in 1977, a pivotal change occurred under the leadership of Board Chairman Stefan Chipowsky. The organization was renamed the Carefree Chamber of Commerce, and its base was relocated to Carefree. By 1992, the name evolved once more to the Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce, reflecting a renewed commitment to supporting businesses in both towns equally.
Today, the Chamber’s mission is steadfast in assisting the economic growth of our local business community and representing their interests to the public and elected officials. We believe that when local businesses thrive, the entire community prospers. We achieve this by hosting networking events, providing business education and marketing opportunities, and advocating on behalf of our members.
Our dedication extends beyond business. Through our 501(c)(3) Foundation, we raise funds for student scholarships and local community grants, driving economic development and enhancing workforce growth. The Chamber is committed to being the catalyst for growth, the advocate for change, and the bridge that connects businesses and community members. Together, we are two distinct towns but one vibrant destination, stronger in unity.
As we celebrate 60 years of supporting the Desert Foothills Region business owners, we look forward to continuing our mission for the next 60 years and beyond. We are excited to be a part of this thriving community and remain dedicated to its ongoing success.
Here’s to the next chapter of growth, prosperity, and community spirit in the Carefree Cave Creek region!
