Cave Creek has a unique and colorful history, having been settled in the 1870s as a mining and ranching region. It was not incorporated as a town until 1986. Cave Creek’s fiercely independent spirit has been nurtured for more than 100 years as miners, ranchers and others looking to get away from it all settled in relative seclusion near Black Mountain. Although increased urban growth throughout the Valley has changed Cave Creek a bit, our residents are still down-to-earth folks who are civic-minded and active in the community. Cave Creek’s western tradition is evident in its southwestern architecture and rambling ranch homes. It is here that you will find small horse ranches and wide open spaces. The view in nearly any direction reveals living postcards of mountain ranges, towering saguaro cactus, deep arroyos and high mesas.

Carefree was founded in the 1950s as one of the earliest planned communities in Arizona. Set on some of the most splendid acreage in the southwest, the care with which the town planners plotted Carefree’s future is a key to its many charms. In Carefree, natural habitat has been integrated into a planned residential community. The architecture follows graceful Spanish Colonial and contemporary southwestern designs and colors that complement the area’s abundant natural beauty. Custom homes blend into the rocks and surrounding mountains. The whimsical spirit in which Carefree was founded weaves itself throughout the community, as evidenced by a maze of narrow streets and roadways with quirky names such as Nonchalant, Ho Hum and Easy Street, or Rocking Chair Lane and Primrose Path.
