Theme:  Sonoran Desert Exploration

Instructor: Dr. Jane White

The goal of this summer camp is to expose students to different art mediums, allowing them to explore their own creativity, while integrating new understandings of the Sonoran Desert. They will have the opportunity to learn about our desert environment through hands-on art activities.

For 2 hours a day, during this 4-day summer camp your student will experience five different mediums: pencil sketching, watercolors, air-dry clay sculpture, nature object assemblage, and photography.

They will learn about sketching as a step in producing a watercolor landscape to be used as a backdrop for their photography. The clay sculptures and assemblage sculptures will be used in the scenes to be photographed. And they will learn the basics of photo editing. Students’ drawings, paintings, sculptures and digital photography will be available to take home.

Lessons from each day will build upon one another. On the last day students will discuss and share their final creation in the form of digital photography.

All materials will be provided.
